The process of becoming is always in full effect. Yesterday, I watched our forever first lady, Michelle Obama’s, BECOMING documentary. I was reminded that this journey never ends. It is every season of the journey that helps us become who we need to be in the next season. The next level of success will always require you to be more than who you are presently.
I am in route to become a founding assistant principal at a middle school. It is the same role, but a new experience. I have never started a school nor have any experience with middle school curriculum. I am nervous at times about the shift, but I am confident that I well do exceedingly great.
Why am I so confident? I believe that everything I learned, all the skills I developed and all the practice I have had makes me a candidate for success. During my 10 years of teaching and leading, I have become who I need to be for this new chapter.
I will not tell you that I enjoyed all the journey had to offer. I did not like hearing “no” or “we made a different decision”. It was not cool to get accountability emails or send them to others. I cried out of frustration, sadness and sometimes fear. However, now that I am moving forward, I can see how those moments strengthened my character and made me wiser.
You, my dear friend, are on a journey headed to greatness. Your story up until this point is what has prepared you for where you are going. Be present as you take the journey learning all you need to learn and becoming who you need to be.
I and the Apostle Paul are certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Philippians 1:6 NLT) He has not returned, so the journey continues.
