As an educator, serving students and teachers online is uncharted waters. It’s like I am learning how to teach and lead for the very first time. I want to do what’s right and appropriate for this current season, but I don’t know how that will look from week to week. In some cases, day to day. People suggest I take it one day at a time: one step at a time.

One step at a time is probably the most difficult advice to practice. We struggle with one step at a time because that seems to take so long. We want what we want when we want it. We want things to change quickly. It’s like we are racing against a time clock that only we can see. We have determined our own expiration dates.

I am grateful for the words of wisdom recorded in Psalms 37:23, The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Here we read about a man who allows God to lead him. This man is said to be a good man. Well, what makes him good? He is good because he yields to the Lord’s leading. He submits his will to Lord. He trusts the Lord’s plan for his life.

We must adopt the beliefs of this good man. We too, should trust and know that God’s will is perfect and good. We should find delight in taking the steps that He has ordered for us. It takes faith to trust God, but we all have a measure of faith that enables us to trust him.

Let’s commit to ordered obedience. Ordered obedience is taking the steps that the Lord has provided for us. This level of obedience requires full submission and trust in the one who has an impeccable record. Let’s take delight in the journey so that we bring God glory.
